Concrete can crack: that’s a risk that comes along with concrete countertops, most commonly when poured in place rather than pre-cast. To prevent it, you may add fiber reinforcement, rebar, and/or wire mesh but if they still appear, they can be repaired. Concrete backsplashes require maintenance. Reseal your backsplash every one to three years, avoid abrasive cleaners and scrubbers that can damage sealer. Consider all these pros and cons and decide if concrete is worth it or not.

It can be a backsplash of reclaimed or aged wood, just some vertical or horizontal wood planks or just some wood clad in a pattern, for example, chevron. You may go for such a look not only for rustic, chalet, vintage and shabby chic kitchens but also for many others, too. Rock a modern kitchen with such a backsplash for a contrast.

They are practical because they offer an internal structure that offers a décor that’s perfect for cooking but also for everything else. Whether they are a separate room or they are part of an open floor plan, L-shaped kitchens feature plenty of counter space which can be a crucial detail and that can make the difference between a practical kitchen and one that lacks something important. They also have the shape necessary for also including a kitchen island.
